Superior warmth, moisture management and light weight. This ST shirt is made for the most severe environments and intense activities. The Polycolon® mesh provides 4 to 6 times the insulating value of solid knits while keeping moisture off the skin. The garment is used extensively by military and expedition forces where intense activity can cause sweat and moisture to put you at risk. The solid knit inlay on the shoulder provides a comfort layer under pack straps. This is also a great choice to be worn under a dry suit. Sizes: XXS – XXXL. Color: navy, black.

Description

Brynje original Super Thermo (ST) mesh is made from 100% Schoeller® Polycolon® synthetic yarn, knitted into a 3/8″ open weave mesh that provides 4 to 6 times the insulating power of any solid knit by weight. The polypropylene yarn absorbs virtually no moisture while the mesh design allows perspiration to pass through the garment in vapor form. Nothing wet against the skin!

Polypropylene also has a very high strength to weight ratio providing super light garments designed to withstand years of extreme use. Brynje Super Thermo base layers have been used extensively in expedition work and are worn by Special Forces troops across the globe. Brynje ST garments are not just ideal for high intensity, cold weather activities. Because of the thermostatic qualities of the mesh, these base layer garments are exceptional for warm weather use as well. “Making the case for synthetic mesh base layers.”

Awesome base layer for stop and go activities in subzero weather. A big help with moisture management if you do your part with ventilation and common sense.

  2. Anonymous (verified owner)

As advertised, warmer for weight and more quickly drying than anything else I’ve worn. The logic of mesh base layers makes so much sense i feel stupid for not realizing it years ago. How much extra clothing has weighed me down, how much sweat has chilled me over the years that i could have avoided!
Sizing runs thin and long. I am fairly thin: 5’11”, 145 lbs 31-1/2 waist, 42 chest. Large was the correct size for me for both super thermo long sleeve with inlay and super thermo longs (bottom) with inlay. Nonetheless, the upper is a little restrictive (breathing and lifting arms), though not too bad. The bottom is a little long, but that seems to help allow freer movement (bending at knees and hips). FWIW: I tend to like clothes a little large to facilitate movement, so others might be more comfortable with the fit.

  3. Sergio (verified owner)

I’m incredibly impressed with how well this shirt performed. Despite running in single-digit temperatures throughout the winter and typically wearing multiple layers of merino, this shirt enabled me to shed a few layers. As a result, I experienced a significant reduction in moisture buildup on my base layer. Consequently, I will be purchasing the legging version.

  4. SERGUEI D. (verified owner)

Works great as a base layer

  5. James (verified owner)

Performed better than merino wool in heat retention and dried faster. Is now my primary base layer.

  6. Benjamin Greenberg (verified owner)

    Warm and dry. Excellent

  7. Anonymous (verified owner)

Very effective. Just wish they weren’t as long.

  8. Chris P. (verified owner)

Works exactly as advertised, keeps my mid-layer dry when I sweat in freezing temps. An absolute must as a Ski-Lift operator!

  9. David W. (verified owner)

Being someone who runs hot and sweaty this works amazingly well. Stopping after a few hours of activity I don’t feel the typical cold back like with other base layers. Used down at around -20C and I was comfortable.

  10. Elwood (verified owner)

Well built mesh base layer that seems to work as advertised.

  11. Michael (verified owner)

    Excellent fit and craftsmanship

  12. Richard (verified owner)

I’m 5’-7” 180 pounds and I like a looser fit so I went with the x-large. For me the fit was just right. However the sleeve length was a little long but still manageable. They performed exactly as they were supposed to.

  13. Kenneth (verified owner)

    Excellent quality

  14. Andrew Heap (verified owner)

Brynje mesh is a lifesaver. As a sweat monster I’m always managing ‘moisture intrusion’ Brynje is a vital component

  15. Trace Krueger (verified owner)

    Very useful in Minnesota!

  16. Ralph Baker (verified owner)

Very pleased with this shirt keeps me very comfortable.

  17. J (verified owner)

Does a great job.I love it,I use it under my alpaca wool under shirt. This has helped me keep the bulky layers down.

  18. Andrew (verified owner)

This is my new go-to baselayer for running, skiing, and hiking. I doubted how effective the fishnet weave would be, but I’m sold after coming home warm and dry from multiple long runs and ski days in freezing conditions.

  19. Arthur Viens (verified owner)

A must have for running, skiing, hiking, and fishing. This keeps your skin dry and prevents evaporative cooling when your skin stays wet from building up body heat from any endurance activity.

  20. William Leduna (verified owner)

Used it 3x a week for my winter runs. It is very comfortable that at the end of my run I am dry with no worries of re-freezing. This has become my favorite base layer. My other base layer garments took a back seat. The fabric is really a no-stink even on re-use. Glad I found this. I also purchased more as my Christmas gift for active folks.

  21. James Augustine (verified owner)

Great durable base layer – kept me warm!

  22. Donald (verified owner)

As a member of the U.S. military, these should be a standard issue base layer. Absolutely incredible performance. My friends are tired of hearing me talk about how much warmer I am than they are.

  23. Fernando C. (verified owner)

Unbelievably comfortable and warm. Went to ski and stayed warm with just a jacket. Would not have believed it.

  24. Mark H. (verified owner)

    Quality product

  25. William Leduna (verified owner)

I used it for this winter running and sweaty work to avoid re-freezing. I felt dry after every run. This becomes my favorite winter base layer.

  26. Gordon S. (verified owner)

I find that mesh base layers are the best for staying warm.

  27. Olivia Morgan (verified owner)

    Great fit, very warm

  28. Stephen Browne (verified owner)

For my daughter, she loved it and thought it fashionable.

  29. Andrew Heap (verified owner)

Absolute genius for dressing corrrect, not sweating to death and subsequent chill. As a sweat monster winter and summer I rely on Brynje for keeping on keeping on

  30. Anonymous (verified owner)

    Same as above.

  34. Verified Buyer (verified owner)

Excellent product! very warm and seems to be well constructed. More importantly, customer service was off the charts. I highly recommend Brynje USA.

  35. Jason (verified owner)

Really great shirt. I was skeptical, but I’ve worn it on two trips now and its great. Very warm and dry. The size was perfect for me. Couldn’t be happier (well maybe if it was a little cheaper, but seems to be worth the price). Hopefully it lasts a long time.

  36. David (verified owner)

    Super warm under wool layer

  37. Jesse S. (verified owner)

This thing is great. I use it when temps are generally above 15f for the day. It’s comfortable, cut long so it doesn’t come out of pants when climbing or skiing, dries quickly, has a great temp range, and does all the things claimed. I got a large and like the fit. Arms are nice and long for climbing use. It also doesn’t seem to pick up smells when worn for multiple days. I am generally a med to large in USA clothes and am happy with a large.

  38. Charles (verified owner)

Shirt fits well and does a great job of keeping moisture away from my skin during cold-weather activities.

  39. Amanda (verified owner)

Kept me incredibly warm on many freezing runs! Amazing base layer

  40. Anonymous (verified owner)

Works very well and is super warm.
Am 6’4″ & 176lbs and I bought an XL, but it is nearly too long. Probably L would have been fine, too!

  41. Stephen (verified owner)

I’ve liked it well enough to recommend to my family.

  42. Ralph Clark (verified owner)

Excellent piece of gear for backpacking on colder days

  43. Terrence Sparks (verified owner)

As I learned from a well-known owner of a backpacking website, this base layer is, in his words “I love it.”
I’m very happy with it and as I had planned on how to use it in cold weather, I wear this base layer underneath my Yak Wool base layer which pairs up beautifully to keep me warm enough to shed a mid-layer much of the time.

  44. Dakota C. (verified owner)

    I love it

  45. randy g. (verified owner)

There are a lot of options in this style of base layer but this is the best. I teach outdoor health/survival and Brynje is my example of the best.

  46. Brian Labatte (verified owner)

First time to use the long shelve with the polycon. Equal to my favorite cotton short shelve. Absolutely perfect for cross country skiing.

  47. Charles D Yatsko (verified owner)

I have worn this shirt a few times so far in various situations, hiking and doing outside work in cold weather. The garment has amazed me in the dissipation of excess moisture, prevention of “flash-off” hypothermia, and overall warmth. Very pleased with this, and I will definitely consider additional purchases.

  48. Al R (verified owner)

I have this product in both short- and long-sleeve. It is on my holiday shopping list for family (for my adult kids who back-country ski). Including those two products, I own seven products from Brynje. In each case, if it is Brynje, it will improve the performance of any thing I wear it with. Time and again, I pair this Brynje underlayer with a mid- or outer-layer and go out in confidence. The tee shirt version of this I use for cold weather chores. The long-sleeve version is for that and just about anything else. (I do choose the super-micro mesh for Nordic skiing and biking, as the tighter weave delivers more airflow reduction. With back country skiing, the skinning up does not leave me sweat-drenched only to get a chill while taking off skins and throwing on layers for the descent. My body temp-range is controlled. I use these products nearly year-round (New England weather variations). The times I have under-dressed or over-dressed for conditions and exertion, the Brynje made my time far more tolerable. Worth the price.

  49. Tim Hewitt

I have completed the 1000 mile Iditarod Trail Invitational winter human powered race across Alaska 10 times. I am the current record holder on foot and am the only known person to complete the trail on foot unsupported and unassisted. I am always changing out gear for better gear. A friend from Norway gave me long and short sleeve super thermo base layers and I used the long sleeve under a capilene mid layer on a 14 day solo snow shoe expedition through interior Alaska in deep snow in frigid temperatures this year. In fact I experienced the lowest temperature that I have encountered at 65 below zero F on the Tanana River in February. My Brynja worked perfectly and I was dry to the touch despite working so hard in deep snow. My outer down puffy was completely frozen to my primaloft vest and the feathers were frozen into clumps. But my body was dry. I just put in an order for lots of Brynja products. I can’t eliminate all risk but I can certainly eliminate some and that’s why I am fully endorsing this product!

I’ve had mine for about a year. Definitely seems to hold in more warmth than a regular merino or poly base layer.
On one dayhike in the 40’s F with a thin hoodie as the outside layer going up and down steep grades, it kept me comfortable and dry. A normal top would have been soaked from the climbs and had me chilled while descending.
Under a midweight wool sweater, I stay warmer using this layer rather than a Smartwool long sleeve top.
Doesn’t appear to hold odor after several days of backpacking.
When washing, the mesh dries quickly, but the raglan sleeves and neck hem will require longer without wringing them out first.
I considered the merino wool version, but this one works well enough not to bother.
I’m considering getting a short sleeved version to try during the summer; however, with the high humidity in my areas may not help.
    Great addition.
