Unisex Super Thermo T-Shirt Base Layer with Inlay

(26 customer reviews)

Exceptional warmth and moisture control in an extremely lightweight base layer. The ST T-shirt with inlay can be worn all four seasons as the mesh design provides warmth when the second layer closes the air cells yet will cool when the second layer is opened to allow air to pass over the skin. Since the polypropylene yarn absorbs little moisture you will always be dry and comfortable. The inlay on the shoulder provides a smooth comfortable surface for pack straps to rest. Sizes: XXS – XXXL. Color: navy.

Brynje original Super Thermo (ST) mesh is made from 100% Schoeller® Polycolon® synthetic yarn, knitted into a 3/8″ open weave mesh that provides 4 to 6 times the insulating power of any solid knit by weight. The polypropylene yarn absorbs virtually no moisture while the mesh design allows perspiration to pass through the garment in vapor form. Nothing wet against the skin!

Polypropylene also has a very high strength to weight ratio providing super light garments designed to withstand years of extreme use. Brynje Super Thermo base layers have been used extensively in expedition work and are worn by Special Forces troops across the globe. Brynje ST garments are not just ideal for high intensity, cold weather activities. Because of the thermostatic qualities of the mesh, these base layer garments are exceptional for warm weather use as well. “Making the case for synthetic mesh base layers.”

Perfect base layer for cross country skiing! Dry on the climbs and warm on the descents. Like mithril for the endurance athlete.

Bought both the poly and wool versions of the short sleeve. They perform exactly as advertised, wicking away moisture to outer layers.

Love the shirt. It does exactly what I was hoping; Which is to breath well and not feel clammy when wet. I sized up which I am super thankful for. The xl is a little tight on a 45 inch chest. I’ll probably buy a long sleeve for a little more warmth in winter. Very happy these are available.

Works exactly as advertised, keeps my mid-layer dry when I sweat in freezing temps. An absolute must as a Ski-Lift operator!

Light; feels durable; performs very well in holding warmth and preventing sweat buildup. A real game-changer.

Material is soft next to skin unlike other mesh shirts that feel like scratchy rope.

Skin suit tight so order at least one size up. A great base layer for the shoulder seasons. Or in the winter when you don’t want the extra warmth of a long sleave zip. I love the shoulder inlays – easier on your shoulders under a heavy pack or sled harness.
The size seems to run one size small – compared to Super Thermo Zip Polo Shirt with Inlay. Last time I got the L and found it to be skin suit tight. So this time I ordered XL to give me more room.
I send my Brynje tops out for Insect Shield treatment – since I wear these year round and want tick protection.

    great thermo layer for fall-winter-spring

  9. Arthur Viens (verified owner)

A must have for running, skiing, hiking, and fishing. This keeps your skin dry and prevents evaporative cooling when your skin stays wet from building up body heat from any endurance activity.

Item as described. Sizing spot on. Fast delivery with tracking. Looking forward to testing the base layer this winter.

    Warm as expected

Great base layer. Liked my first one so much I had to buy another one.

Very soft which is something I require. The construction is obviously top notch. My concerns about fishnet being too delicate disappeared the moment I inspected the stitching, weave and the quality and strength of the yarn. I appreciate the importance of the shoulder insets now that I’ve used it. Finally, I wear this running in the 30s and 40s. I really want to stay dry and found that it assists remarkably with evaporation–it was amazing in fact. I use this as a baselayer and pair it with F’s elemental layer (midlayer) and P’s airshed pro outer layer as recommended by Backpacking Light.

I tend to run hot and sweaty when ski touring and this base layer is the best I’ve found for thermoregulating.

The Super Thermo T-Shirt should be a part of everyone’s winter layering system. This shirt performed superbly in temperatures ranging from mid-30s (F) to low-20s and into the teens. The shirt provides incredible warmth when paired with other layers and does help to manage moisture and sweat. Doing long strenuous hikes in the Adirondacks the shirts didn’t prevent me from sweating, but they did help keep other layers drier than they would have been with a different base layer. The Super Thermo also kept me warm even when I did manage to get wet out on very steep inclines. I have a feeling this shirt will perform even better in slightly lower temperatures for me as I tend to run hot. I would highly recommend this product to anyone.

A note on sizing. I am 5’9″ about 170 and ordered a size M and probably would have been better with a L. The shirt fits very snug, as it is supposed to, but some people may not like that second skin feel.

I am someone who freezes after sweating while hiking in cool temps, and nothing wicks like these net tops. The open weave makes a great thermal layer that is mechanically unable to get sopping wet and stick to your back like a wet dishrag. Indispensable! The synthetic version very durable if cared for as recommended, my last top lasted over 20 seasons.

Wearing is believing! After seeing ads for these products in Outside and Cross Country Skier magazines, I finally “took a chance” on these products. I really didn’t take a chance because Brynje USA provides superior customer service. I purchased this shirt, the Super Micro Tee, and the boxer shorts. I like this Thermo so much I have just ordered the long-sleeve version. I chose the inlay for both because I wear a backpack for a lot of activities. Each of these products have dramatically improved my comfort in outdoor activities. My use has been limited to late autumn and temperatures ranging from damp and 40 F, to 18 F and windy. Activities have been mountain biking, running, roller skiing, and for periods of two hours. These products perform exactly as described. If you are active, they won’t stop you from sweating, but they manage moisture to stop the chill. Also — and this is key — I have used and love merino base and mid-layers. The Brynje products as the next to skin layer makes merino, and every part of your layering system work better. So far, I find I only need to adjust zippers on my outer layer to control body temp. Deeper in winter, adding and dropping the top layer may come into play, but for chilly temps, the layers I start with are the ones I wear the whole time. I am certain these products will continue to serve me well when I am mountain biking, snowshoeing or skiing with temps below 0 F. I also bought the Wool Thermo with zip neck, but returned that because the neck didn’t work for me. (All of my mid-and outer-layers have zippered necks, so there is not enough space. I will comment on the other products I have purchased.

Fantastic shirt which does what it claims to do, regulates temperature, and helps keep you drier. You never feel sweaty, it’s very warm when worn under something, but you can easily cool off just by unzipping the outer layer. Love it! Does’t seem to get very smelly either, even after 2 days of xc skiing. The inlay makes it comfortable with a pack.

This is my second shirt from Brynje, but this one has the inlay on the shoulders which should help with backpacking. I am using them on my morning run to manage moisture and heat loss. Works great by keeping me drier and more comfortable. They really do what the specs say they do. Right now the weather is cold and damp on the east coast, but I will use them next summer in the heat as well. Great product.
